ASTHO's 2022 Hill Day was nothing short of a success and we remain cautiously optimistic for an in-person Hill Day in 2023. We look forward to continuing our work to ensure we meet state and territorial health departments’ advocacy priorities.
Advocating on Capitol Hill for strong public health systems is critical to advancing the work of state and territorial health agencies. ASTHO's 2019 “Washington Week” has come and gone, but the work is far from over.
As the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, ASTHO is committed to the T in our name. The health officials from the territories and freely-associated states are valued members and we are committed to advocating for the unique policy needs and priorities of the Pacific and Atlantic jurisdictions. The insular areas face unique challenges locally but also require a specific strategy here in Washington, D.C. Funding approaches and requirements set for states do not always translate to the unique context of the insular areas.
On March 3, 2021, ASTHO members gathered virtually for Hill Day, to provide members of Congress with an update on the COVID-19 response in their states and territories and to discuss how federal funding is being used in state, territorial, and local health departments.
